More About me and Why the "Princess"

Over the last 11+ years of marital bliss (ha ha), I have developed a knack for the culinary arts. My old next door neighbor, who is a chef, says I'm what the formally educated food experts call a "foodie". I am a self taught, or should I say Web/Food Network/cookbook taught chef. (I also learned a lot from my Momma, who taught me all about cooking from scratch, and is a pretty good cook herself). I love to bake and cook and am a canned food snob. Yes I still use canned goods if I must, with my crazy busy life, but I try my hardest to avoid recipes that are not mostly homemade. [Canned tomatoes are alright:)]Stick with me on this journey and I will share many of my own creations as well as my tried and true recipes from food favorites like Paula Deen and Giada or my personal collaborations.

Additionally, I love to sew, crochet and knit. Pretty much anything crafty (although I'm not a big fan of counted cross-stitch...don't have the patience). I'm a beginner in many respects for these areas but I can follow a pattern, and if I get stuck...I go to my good old trusty teacher...Mr. YouTube...who always gets me out of a jam. This artistic quality, I must attribute to my Dad and my Grandma Ethyl who are two of the most artistic creative people I know, so it must be in my genes. :)

Furthermore, I am an outdoorsy girl and a DIYer. I love camping, and gardening (although I am a novice) and learning how to do things myself. I love being a mom and wife and learn so much every day and will share many of my nuggets of wisdom with you.

Why the "Princess"? Well, for a couple reasons. First, to just be silly....I AM a female after all...and don't we all act like princesses anyway? I mean, we usually want to have our way and everyone is supposed to follow suit. From the time we're little girls we pretend to be princesses, and boys... nothing changes when we are women either...just ask my DH...so get used to it. ;-)
However, on a more serious note, the second reason for the self-title of 'Princess' is because I AM one. No I'm not being snarky... but for real...I am a believer in Jesus, so I am the Daughter of the King of Kings, right??! Well...what's the daughter of a king? A Princess..duh...;-) It's taken me years of personal growth through reading God's Word and many books to really understand WHO I am as well as WHOSE I am . This road of figuring out my self worth and how special I really am through God's eyes has not been an easy one or a short one. Neither has my journey been perfect. Contrary to what I portray, I am highly flawed (though I try to come off like I am not) I have struggles just like the rest and need a Savior more today than ever. So my suggestion to you is..if you have a hard time realizing your worth, I encourage you to read what God says about you in His Word and if you'd like some great book suggestions to help this journey please ask...and know that YOU are a Princess too (if you're a girl;) )

So...will you join me on my continued pursuits in becoming a domestic goddess, the gal who can bring home the bacon and fry it up in the pan...(although I don't bring home a LOT of the bacon..ha ha)...but I can do pretty much anything I put my mind to. [That must be the Croswait stubbornness in me..] Let's get started!

P.S..Did I mention I love the Phillies?! :) AND FYI I am a college student again..so my crazy busy schedule means my blog isn't always consistently updated...it's usually either Feast or Famine....sorry :)

  2. Hooray! A fellow Phillies fan! Popping over here from SITS, and I was super excited to see your picture. My family and I live about an hour NW from Philly, and we are there several times a year for sporting events. Good for you about going back to school, and since baseball starts up soon for my oldest, it will be back to feast or famine in our household too!

  6. Hi! I found you through SITS, and it sounds like we have a lot in common. I have 3 princesses, consider myself a bit of a foodie, and I have lived in NC for almost 20 years (but I lived up north before that!). And most importantly, I am a princess myself...a daughter of the King of Kings! I am totally subscribing to you!

  23. I love this post! I am also a Christian and re-dedicated my life to Christ around 3 1/2 years ago. My journey has also not been easy, although I'm not sure that I know many people who have had an easy one. I love how you explained being a princess as being a daughter of God. I had never thought of it like that and I think that is a great way to give women a boost in our self-worth and self-esteem. I know that is something I have struggled with and it seems to be a common issue among women. Thank you for sharing your faith. You have given me a reminder today of how special we are because we are all children of God. Happy SITS Day!
